Since its debut in 1969, the "2000GT-R," affectionately known as 'Hakosuka,' has achieved notable success in racing. At the time, its new car price was approximately 1.5 million yen (equivalent to over 7 million yen in today's value), making it a coveted item beyond the reach of many. It is said that only 1197 units of the 2-door coupe introduced in 1970 were produced, adding to its rarity and enduring appeal.
As a sibling model to the revered Hakosuka, the 2000GT quickly gained popularity and many units were modified into GT-R specifications. This particular vehicle is modified into a GT-R "spec," but it exudes a GT-R presence so strongly that one might hesitate to merely call it a GT-R "spec."
One look at its distinguishing features reveals why: all the glass has been replaced with genuine white glass bearing Nissan's insignia in the corners. Additionally, GT-R emblems adorn various parts, making it difficult to discern from its appearance alone that it's a GT-R spec conversion.
The pinnacle is revealed when you open the bonnet to see the S20 engine. Unless you check the vehicle registration or chassis number, few would realize that this vehicle isn't a genuine GT-R. With exposed funnels, roll cages, over-fenders on the front, Watanabe wheels, tower bars, and a chrome-plated 100L tank, this vehicle looks every bit like a GT-R. Fresh from an engine overhaul and currently undergoing its break-in period, it's also equipped with switch-operated power steering to assist the driver.
Not only does it achieve a high level of completion as a GT-R "spec," but it also wears the Safari Gold body color that was showcased during the KPGC10's debut and reportedly produced for only two months, emphasizing its status as a truly special vehicle.
