The “Type-R” debuted in November 1992 as the special model for the first-generation Honda NSX (The earlier model/NA1).

Aka “92R”, this Japanese real sports car, based on the NSX, was equipped with the same V6 3-liter DOHC VTEC（C30A). But to improve the weight and balance distribution of the crankshaft, piston, connecting rod, the construction process was done by hand just like how race engines are done.

Also, the attention to detail towards the body is also special. The aluminum body of a NSX is already light weight, but in order to reduce the weight even more the bumper and the door beam were composed of aluminum, the engine maintenance lid was made of aluminum mesh, the RECARO full bucket seat, a MOMO steering wheel, titanium shift knob were installed and sound insulation material reduced. More than several tens of checklist for weight reduction were checked off. As a result, compared to the base model approximately 120kg was shaved off.
