1969 Morris Mini Cooper S Mark2

  • Performance version of the classic Mini
  • Just 18,000 km on the odometer, originally imported by an official dealer
  • Restored
  • Increased capacity and cam change

The Morris Mini Cooper S is a popular performance version of the classic Mini. This example is a 1969 Mark II which was imported by Nichiei Cars Co., Ltd., the official dealer at the time. This low mileage example has been in great care with the previous owner who acquired it in 1993.
Perhaps the most noticeable feature on the exterior are the Raydyot mirrors, which were commonly used in race cars and have a distinct design that complements the Mini. Looking at the exterior it’s clear that the car has been carefully cared for by its previous owner.
Originally the engine in this Cooper S Mark II had a capacity of 1,275 cc but it was increased to 1,293 cc. The camshaft is a rally cam with a 73-degree profile, the valve springs have been strengthened, the crankshaft was balanced and the engine itself was modified. The carburetors are SU-H4 twins, it has a custom exhaust with an elaborate manifold and the original stainless steel muffler. The transmission has straight-cut gears and a lightweight flywheel making it a very responsive car with pleasant gearshifts. To address the increase in power it received anti-roll bars and Koni shocks. Previously the car had hydrolastic suspension as standard but as these are commonly a point of failure they were replaced, providing peace of mind for the owner.
The interior remains original, with the exception of the Smiths chronometric tachometer which was common in F1 due to their accuracy. While this is a modified classic car, it was made for daily use.
