The first-generation Honda Vamos embodies the phrase “a car that doesn’t exist in modern times.” With its compact body lacking doors and a roof, the vehicle is separated from the outside world by guard bars and a front windshield. A glance down from the driver’s seat reveals the road just below, giving it a striking, avant-garde appearance.

In 1973, the vehicle ceased production due to failing to meet revised safety standards. With a production run of only three years and just 2,530 units manufactured, few original models remain today.

The Vamos came in three variations: a two-seater, a four-seater, and a “no-door" model with a complete canopy. Among these, the “no-door” model is particularly rare, making this vehicle highly collectible.

Equipped with a 4-speed manual transmission, the engine is a 354cc air-cooled, 2-cylinder OHC located under the second-row of the driver’s seat, creating a unique midship layout. The front design features distinctive frog-eye-like headlights flanking a spare tire, enhancing its charming appearance. Inside, the vehicle showcases a military-like vibe with exposed metal and simple gauges.

Maintaining a high level of originality, this particular unit underwent a thorough restoration after 50 years. The body has been repainted in its original color, and the canopy has been replaced. The front bench seat has been upgraded to separate synthetic leather seats, while the rear canvas seat remains original. To match the newly painted glossy body, the front seats have been newly upholstered in synthetic leather.

The Vamos is designed not only for leisure but also to adeptly handle various work scenarios. While it may not perfectly fit modern traffic conditions, its tagline, “A vehicle with limitless uses depending on the owner’s ideas,” remains relevant today.
