1969 Subaru young SS Restore Base
- Restoration model of Young SS
- Equipped with genuine air cleaner and twin carburetor
In 1958, the Subaru 360 came to market in Japan as a national car that left a significant mark in the history of Japanese automobiles by popularizing the concept of the "personal car" in Japan.
A member of the team who had also been involved in the design and development of combat vehicles, the Subaru 360 was equipped with a 356 cc forced air-cooled two-stroke engine in a RR configuration in a compact package with an endearing yet functional styling. The vehicle weighed 385 kg and had a top speed of 83 km/h. As an affordable family car for four people, known as the popular nickname "Ladybug”. It earned a high reputation as a world-class miniature car with its affordable price, and the high level of technology was condensed into its small body.
The Subaru 360 dominated the light passenger car market for about 10 years after that, but in 1967, with the debut of the Honda N360, the title was handed over to Honda. However, Fuji Heavy Industries (Subaru), the manufacturer of the car never gave up to compete with the high performance and low price of the N360, and introduced the "Young SS" equipped with the EK32 engine, which was more powerful than the previous model and produced 36ps.
With an 8,000 rpm scale tachometer, racing stripes on the light covers and hood, and dual mufflers peeking out from rear, the exterior looked like a sports car targeted to young people. The engine, which was souped up almost to a racing engine, boasted a top speed of 120 km/h and gained popularity as a "hot model" in terms of both appearance and performance, but the Subaru 360 was regrettably discontinued in August 1969. The Young SS had a short life of only 10 months.
This vehicle is the Young SS made in 1969.
The interior and exterior of the vehicle are both kept in high original condition, and the engine compartment is also in original condition. Since the vehicle has been stored in a warehouse for a long time, the paint is cracked and has signs of rust, but it is in good condition as a restoration base model.
