Introduced in 1979, the sixth-generation Bluebird (910-series) marked a return to the roots of the legendary third-generation 510. Featuring crisp, square-edged styling with clean, straight lines, it became an enormous commercial success, holding the title of Japan's best-selling compact passenger car for an astonishing 27 consecutive months.
In March 1980, Nissan expanded the lineup with the SSS Turbo series, powered by the Z18E·T turbocharged inline-four engine producing 135 horsepower. The engine was notable as Japan's first turbocharged SOHC inline-four fitted to a production passenger car. Sitting at the top of the range was the SSS Turbo S, distinguished by its firmer suspension setup, headlamp washers, and other exclusive equipment.
This particular example wears the exclusive Sporty Red and Black two-tone paint scheme reserved only for the SSS Turbo S. The striking color combination perfectly complements the sharply drawn Nissan styling of the early 1980s, while the distinctive "Turbo" graphics along the flanks give the car an unmistakable presence.
Opening the door reveals a cabin that immediately transports its occupants back to the golden era of Japanese performance cars. The center console houses a period Pioneer component audio system, an object of desire among young enthusiasts of the day, while matching Pioneer speakers are installed in the rear. The original dashboard, striped seats, steering wheel, and interior trim have all been preserved in remarkably original condition, showing a level of care that belies the passage of more than four decades.
At the same time, the car benefits from tasteful upgrades that enhance its character without compromising its authenticity. Adjustable front coilover suspension sharpens the already responsive steering characteristics of the 910 chassis while achieving an attractive lowered stance. Completing the look are a set of highly desirable period Racing Forge alloy wheels, perfectly capturing the spirit of Japanese street performance culture of the era.
Importantly for enthusiasts who value originality, the rare factory wheels and a complete set of original mud flaps are included with the vehicle.
More than ten maintenance records accompany the car, and the operation of the electric power steering, air conditioning, power mirrors, and optional sunroof has all been confirmed.
As interest in classic Japanese cars continues to grow worldwide, the 910-series Bluebird has attracted renewed attention for its distinctive styling, usability, and relative accessibility. As the flagship SSS Turbo S, this example offers the best of both worlds: it can be enjoyed as a highly original survivor or serve as the ideal foundation for an enthusiast wishing to recreate a period-correct street machine. Either way, it represents a compelling opportunity to own one of Nissan's most iconic rear-wheel-drive sedans.
