Honda CB1100R

  • 1981 Early Production Model [SC05]
  • One of Only 1,050 Units Produced
  • Re-Imported Example
  • Modified in Key Areas

In 1980s Japan, at the height of the motorcycle boom, one machine stood apart: the Honda CB1100R, a homologation special built with a single purpose—to win on the circuit. Developed with technology drawn directly from Honda’s factory race machines, it was offered at the extraordinary price of ¥2.5 million, enough to buy four CB750Fs at the time. It was truly a jewel reserved for a select few riders.

This example is the original 1981 first-year RB (SC05), marking the beginning of the CB1100R story. Of the mere 1,050 units produced, this is one of that rare number. Though the frame number has been officially re-stamped, it remains a genuine SC05-series machine with correct lineage.

It has been fitted with a full fairing and wheels reminiscent of the later RC/RD (SC08) models, giving it a more aggressive appearance, while original touches remain in the front fender and fuel tank. The warning sticker on the tank recalls its time once spent on French roads, and since returning to Japan it has already been registered and inspected. The air-cooled DOHC inline-four delivers its heavy, mechanical beat through a Devil-style exhaust note.

Though some servicing is required, this is no static display piece—it is a machine for the true motorcyclist, one who wishes to command the raw pulse of a former endurance racer with their own hands.
