The Eagle was AMC’s unique creation that changed the American landscape as they had created the first passenger vehicles to have AWD.
This particular vehicle is a 1984 limited edition model, the most high end version of the Eagle. While there are some signs of wear and tear throughout the body, the car is highly original and maintains its 80’s charm. The exterior has faux wood molded panels and the interior is a uniform brown with wooden dashboard and door trim. The audio system is a Kenwood system that has been updated so it can play CDs.
The most notable feature of the Eagle is its all-wheel-drive structure. While this may be a common feature now among SUVs, at the time, it was a pinnacle of innovation and practicality. The powertrain has proven to be highly reliable as it uses technology from the Jeep, which was owned by AMC at the time.
The Eagle can be easily used for hunting, camping, and light leisure activities, as well as in areas with heavy snowfall. This advantage is further emphasized by the fact that this vehicle is equipped with the optional 4WD system. The body size is also quite small for an American car, making it easy to maneuver on narrow roads in Japan.
The car is equipped with a 3-speed automatic transmission and a straight 6 4.2-liter engine that produces 115 hp. The ignition system has been converted to a full-travel system, and the radiator has been replaced with a new one. There is also a spacious luggage space in the rear. The rear window can be opened and closed, as was common with many American cars of the era, allowing for the easy loading and unloading of large amounts of camping gear. While parts are more difficult to come by due to AMC no longer creating any parts, the rarity of this vehicle and its superior functionality overshadow this. This car will surely be the centre of attention when driven anywhere.
