1955 Aston Martin DB2/4 Mark I

  • One of approx. 565 produced
  • Powered by the VB6J 2.9-Liter DOHC inline-six
  • Brake hoses, master cylinder, and brake shoes replaced

Introduced in 1953, the Aston Martin DB2/4 Mark I was developed from the DB2, gaining rear seating to create a more practical “2+2” grand tourer layout. Among the early DB-series models that helped establish Aston Martin’s global reputation, it remains one of the most highly regarded by collectors.

Power comes from the VB6J 2.9-liter DOHC inline-six engine, designed during the Lagonda era by the legendary racing engineer W.O. Bentley. Its character embodies the essence of early Aston Martins, combining exceptional smoothness with a reassuring, muscular core.

As denoted by the “2/4” designation, a defining feature is its hatchback-style rear gate. Improved access to the luggage compartment made this a bold proposition for its era—an innovative grand tourer that balanced high performance with genuine usability.

The body employs the traditional Touring Superleggera construction method, pairing a lightweight tubular frame with elegant aluminum panels styled by Touring. The flowing lines showcase a refined curvature that can be seen as the very foundation of modern Aston Martin design.

This particular example is one of approximately 565 cars produced. It has benefitted from replacement brake hoses, a new master cylinder, and new brake shoes, and is fitted with brand-new tires. While the vehicle inspection has expired, it is ideally suited to be driven immediately and would make an excellent candidate for rally events and historic motoring activities.
