The Ferrari Testarossa is an iconic car and this example was modified by the legendary Koenig Specials. It was a tuning compa- ny founded in 1974 by Willy König and it was famous for modifying Ferraris, Porsches, and other brands.
These cars received both mechanical and radical aesthetic changes, often symbolizing the 80s era of excess. This Testaros- sa had its pop-up headlights replaced with fixed ones, the front bumper was redesigned with a deeper chin spoiler, and both the front and rear wheel arches were widened, with the rear accommo- dating a bigger intake and giving it an unmistakable “Koenig” look. The rear bumper was also changed and the car received a rear wing that doesn’t distract from the body lines.
This is a twin-turbo variant that was imported to Japan in 2008 and then tuned by Nakamura Engineering. First, the engine was rebuilt, starting with the pistons. Extra injectors were added for the additional power, two HKS 50 mm wastegate valves were installed and a new twin-exit exhaust was made. Nowadays turbocharged cars do not have additional injectors but this car was built with the intention to preserve and celebrate that extravagant era.
Initially, new Koenig suspension was imported and installed but they proved to be inadequate for the increased performance levels. To address this Quantum Racing made custom suspension for it with specific damping and spring rates, and short travel to prevent preload when lowering the ride height.
The Koenig Specials and their Testarossa were pioneers of the tuning scene at the time. It is rare to see a car that has been prop- erly maintained and can run at full power, so this is an extremely valuable car.
