1957 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud Series 1
- The last Rolls-Royce model with a straight-6 engine
- Powered by its original 4.9L inline-six engine
- Only 122 units produced with a long wheelbase
The Silver Cloud, which was introduced in 1955 as the successor to the Silver Dawn.
Built upon the engine of the previous model, the Silver Wraith, the Silver Cloud had an increased compression ratio, twin carburetors, and an aluminum cylinder head. The intake ports were also changed to an independent setup, resulting in a completely re-engineered engine. This straight-six engine provided a smooth and perfect driving experience.
However, from the Silver Cloud II, which appeared in 1959, Rolls-Royce switched to a 6.2L V8 engine, and V-type engines have been used in Rolls-Royce cars ever since.
The frame was also newly designed and two types were offered; one with a wheelbase of 3.12 meters and a long-wheelbased model launched in 1957, with a 3.23 meters wheelbase.
Despite weighing nearly 2 tons, the large 4.9L engine and the powerful brakes, which combine hydraulic and mechanical servos, make the car feel surprisingly smooth and effortless to drive.
This particular model is a 1957 edition with a long wheelbase (3.23 meters).
The last Rolls-Royce straight-six continues to perform well, with all other components in good condition. The green coloring covering both the interior and exterior, gives the car an elegant presence without being overly imposing. The wood panels inside are also in excellent condition.
Of the 2,259 units of Series 1 produced, only 122 long-wheelbase models were made, making this one of those rare examples.
