COLLECTIBLE AUCTION

1965 Honda S600 Coupe

  • One of only 1,800 units produced
  • Maintains a high level of original condition
  • Allegedly displayed at the Suzuka Circuit
  • Fully repainted
  • Maintained by a specialist

The S600 was introduced in March 1964 as the successor to the S500, Honda's first production sports car, which was launched in October 1963.

Its basic structure followed that of the S500, with a steel ladder frame chassis and the AS285E in-line 4-cylinder DOHC engine with a bore of 54.5 mm and stroke of 65 mm and displacement of 606 cc.
Its maximum output is 57 hp/8500 rpm, maximum torque is 5.2 kg-m/5500 rpm, and the maximum speed was promoted as 145 km/h.
The suspension is a four-wheel independent suspension with double wishbones in the front and a chain axle in the rear with the drive chain case also serving as a trailing arm, and both front and rear brakes are drum type.

At first, like the S500, it was only available as a two-seater open-top model, but in February 1965, a fastback coupe with a tailgate was added for business use.
The fuel tank, which was located on the rear bulkhead, was relocated to the left rear side to provide a larger luggage space, and the passenger seat backrest could be tilted forward to store larger items.

However, there was still little demand for shooting break-style two-seater coupes in Japan, and with the launch of its successor, the S800, in October 1965, production was limited to 1,519 units in 1965 and 281 units in 1966, compared to 11,284 units of the open-top S600.

The car on display is said to be the 1965 model which was displayed at Suzuka Circuit for a long time.
After its release, the exterior was painted in its original color.
After that, it was stored and maintained under the care of a Specialist.

The chassis number is 1000860.
The engine number on the plate is 1008848, but the engine was replaced with another original engine from a S600 coupe with the number 1007388.

Other than that, the interior and exterior of the car remains in its original condition, except for the missing armrest on the center console.
The number of S-series coupes in existence is very small, so it is rare to find a numbered working car.
