COLLECTIBLE AUCTION

1972 Nissan Fairlady 240ZG

  • A highly original 240ZG
  • The model number 02662 and classification 0070, which confirm it as a 240ZG, are listed in the remarks section
  • Fitted with the original G-nose

In 1969, replacing the Datsun Fairlady (SP/SR models), which had an open body, the Fairlady Z (S30 model) was launched with a more stylish coupe body. In Japan, the standard model (2 versions) featured a SOHC L20 engine with SU twin carburetors, while the Z432 came with the S20 engine used in the Skyline GT-R.

However, the Fairlady Z was also aimed at expanding into the North American market from its early development, and in order to compete with larger displacement American and European cars, a model was offered with a 2.4L L24 engine: the 240Z. This model produced rich torque at low speeds and was praised for its excellent maintainability. As a result, it became hugely popular in the North American market, earning the nickname "DATSUN Z" and selling 550,000 units over the course of 10 years, becoming a big hit.

In addition to its success in North America, production of the high-performance Z432 was discontinued in 1971, and the 240Z with the L24 engine, which had previously been an export-only model, was introduced to the Japanese domestic market. The available variants included the standard 240Z, the luxury 240Z-L, and the 240ZG, which featured a unique FRP front bumper and overfenders known as the "G Nose" and was sold exclusively in Japan.
Among these, the 240ZG with its sharp and sporty "G Nose" front bumper was hugely popular. Because of this popularity, many cars were modified to feature the "ZG Look."

This particular car is a genuine ZG, as evidenced by the model number "02662" and category number "0070" noted in the vehicle registration remarks section. The air ducts on the hood are carefully crafted, further enhancing the racing image of the ZG. The engine retains its original L24 with SU twin carburetors, and the interior remains in a factory-like state, with features such as the wooden steering wheel, shift knob, center-mounted triple gauges, tachometer, and original seats all in place.
