The 7th generation of the Silvia S15 was launched in 1999, equipped with a traditional SR series engine in a body that was downsized to meet the 5-number-size (less than 4,700mm in length, 1,700mm in width, and 2,000mm in height) tax regulations. The naturally aspirated Spec-S and turbocharged Spec-R were available, as well as derivative models such as the Autech style-A version and the retractable hardtop Varietta (both based on the Spec-S). Production of the S15 finished in 2002 with a change in exhaust regulations.
Although only on sale for 3 years and 11 months, the model continues to compete at the apex of drift competitions, such as D1 and Time Attack. This particular example was built with the intention of competing in D1 SL (now Lights) in 2015, and, even now, it is eligible to compete in FDJ2 and D1 Lights.
The car was based on the Autech version of the Spec-S, however both the exterior and interior are not original. The original transmission case made by Aisin AI (now Aisin) can be seen when the car is on a lift - verifying the Autech origin. When the car was last inspected in 2016, the odometer showed 247,200km.
The current owner does not have the full records of all the modifications, but they are extensive. A WISESQUARE full wide body kit and roll cage have been fitted, the dampers have been changed to HKS HIPERMAX 3 dampers, the arms have been changed to D-MAX arms. The combination of RAYS gramLIGHTS wheels and TOYO PROXES R1R tyres are a classic combination for a drift car. Structural change registration has also been completed.
The engine, based on the naturally aspirated SR20 engine, has been bored out to 2.1L and turbocharged, to produce a benchmark 402hp and 46.8kg/m of torque. A NISMO meter was installed, the odometer now shows 208km.
The body, painted in Lamborghini’s metallic orange, has been spot-reinforced and has added 3M panel bonds. The inside of the body has also been painted a non-metallic orange. Each detail is meticulously finished.
At one stage the car had a license plate, however, it is currently temporarily deregistered. It is a suitable drift car but could be used on public roads too.
