This Jaguar E-Type, with the base of the 1964 Jaguar E-type 4.2 Roadster (series 1), was fully restored by Vicarage, well-known as a long-established Jaguar Specialist in the UK. The parts of the vehicle such as the engine and the underbody were also updated in order to pursue a more modern ride. Nowadays we call these type of rides "restmodded = restored & modified."
The engine was replaced with a 4.2-liter for the XJ6 series III (maximum output: 205 hp) which was produced during the late 70's and mid 80's, and it enabled the production of a more powerful drive. The transmission has also been changed from the original four-gear to five-gear MT. As for the underbody, in addition to adopting ventilated disc brakes for all of four wheels, the suspension was also tuned. Though the spork type of wheels makes the car look classical, the rim width was widened to put wide high-grip-tires on. Each section has been updated for its higher driving performance.
Vicarage is one of the prestigious “Top Three Jaguar Restoration Companies” together with "Beacham" in England and "Heritage" in New Zealand. It is also known as a unique coach-builder that specializes in updating conversions to modern specifications like this one. A Vicarage Based on Jaguar Mark II SaloonBody was also famous as one of Tokudaiji Aritsune's (a renowned Japanese automotive critic) favorite car.
This specific vehicle was ordered by Mr. Hajime Tanaka, known as the owner of TI Aida Circuit, and the plate inside is engraved with his own name as the first owner. The year of the initial registration in Japan was July 1990, and the mileage after the restoration and the modification is only 11,200 km.
Each part has been further refined and modified for the tastes of car enthusiasts under the current owner who is one of Japan's leading collectors and a classic car builder. Furthermore, the tappet cover of the engine was changed to the specifications of that time, and the exhaust pipes were also replaced from Vicarage-specification of 4 pipes to 2 pipes in order to make it closer to the original image.
This modernly modified E-type roadster is in pristine condition and can no doubt offer the rider a comfortable drive immediately. There are not many vehicles like this with which you can enjoy the perks of the classic car life in your daily life while simultaneously eliminating the hassles that tend to accompany classic cars.
