The W113, commonly known as the Pagoda, was a sales success and succeeded the legendary 300 SL. It’s considered to be Paul Bracq’s masterpiece. It debuted at the 1963 Geneva Motor Show with a 2.3-litre inline-6 SOHC engine with a 4-speed automatic transmission and power steering; it created an image of both a sports car and a luxury car.
Later in 1968 the model was updated and the 280SL with a 2.8-litre engine was introduced. It made an instant impact selling approximately 50,000 units until production ended in 1971.
A major reason for its success was its iconic styling. Even 50 years later, its proportions and elegant lines make it a car desired by many. While the Pagoda is a roadster, the car can be enjoyed in hardtop form with the “Pagoda roof” which is slightly concave at the top.
This example is in very good condition both inside and out, mechanically it is also sound. The car was fully repainted and in February 2024 passed inspection for road registration which means it is ready to be enjoyed. The hardtop rack is also included.
Just the feeling and sound of opening the door of a Mercedes from this era, transports one back to the times when cost saving was not considered and quality was the priority.
