When the Porsche 911 (996) ushered the legendary 911 into the water-cooled era, it marked the beginning of an entirely new chapter for Porsche. Four years after its debut, in 2001, Porsche unleashed a machine that sent true enthusiasts into a frenzy: the Porsche 911 GT2 (996).
Whereas the preceding 993-generation GT2 had essentially been a homologation special derived from a pure racing car, the 996 GT2 was developed with greater refinement as a road-going machine. Yet this did not mean its edge had been softened. If anything, its fangs became sharper, more demanding, and even more capable of testing the skill of its driver.
Producing 462 PS and 650 Nm of torque, its 3.6-liter twin-turbo flat-six — enhanced by VarioCam Plus — delivered immense, flat torque throughout the highly usable 3,500–4,500 rpm range. In pursuit of a purer driving experience, Porsche deliberately abandoned four-wheel drive, entrusting all that power instead to the marque’s traditional rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout.
Compared to the standard Turbo model, the GT2 shed approximately 100 kilograms, while Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB) came as standard equipment. With 0–100 km/h dispatched in just 4.1 seconds and a top speed of 315 km/h, the 996 GT2 stood as an uncompromising road-going racing machine — one that minimized electronic intervention and demanded genuine commitment from its driver.
The example offered here is one of only 1,287 units produced worldwide and was officially imported into Japan through MITSUWA.
Ownership passed to the current custodian from the original owner in 20XX, the two having been longtime acquaintances. Preserved in highly original condition and carefully stored indoors throughout its life, the car was later enhanced by the current owner with a one-off custom exhaust system, elevating the already visceral soundtrack into something even more intoxicating.
At each corner sit BBS wheels capable of accommodating tires in the original factory dimensions, complemented by upgraded suspension components that further emphasize the car’s purposeful and race-inspired character.
Externally, signature GT2 elements including the large rear wing, door mirrors, and front ducts have been replaced with carbon-fiber components faithful to the original factory design. The contrast of exposed carbon beautifully accentuates the car’s inherently Spartan atmosphere.
Inside, both the seats and steering wheel remain remarkably well preserved, showing minimal signs of wear and belying the car’s 24 years of age.
Focused above all on the joy of driving, carefully refined with the owner’s personal touches, and maintained to an exceptional standard, this is a GT2 that clearly reflects the passion and dedication of its custodian.
