2000 Lamborghini Diablo GTR
- Racing version of the Diablo GT
- Number 18 of 30
- Entirely original
The Diablo GTR was launched at the 1999 Bologna Motor Show as the race-ready version of the Diablo GT to compete in the one-make series, the Lamborghini Supertrophy. The GTR built on the GT’s already aggressive track-forward styling with a larger rear wing bolted to the chassis, 18-inch hollow magnesium centerlock wheels by Speedline, a hydraulic air jack, and a single racing seat with a 6-point harness.
While the same 6.0 L V12 engine in the GT is used, improvements to the fuel and ignition systems, dynamic air intake system, and lighter crankshaft allowed power to be increased by 15 hp to 590 hp at 7,300 rpm, and torque to increase by 10 Nm to 640 Nm at 5,500 rpm.
There were 30 complete Diablo GTRs delivered, plus several spare chassis as accident replacements. As the GTRs were delivered with a host of spare parts, there have been several Diablos converted to a “GTR spec”. This example is one of the original 30, evidenced by the plaque denoting this as Number 18.
Finished in the launch spec of Giallo Fly over Nero Alcantara, this example has been carefully kept in its original state and is in excellent condition inside and out. The Alcantara on the dashboard and steering wheel shows no noticeable deterioration.
Believed to be delivered originally to Germany, the car spent some time in the US in the 2000s where it exhibited at the Palm Beach Cavallino Classic in 2008. This Diablo GTR made its way to Japan in August 2011, shown by the customs clearance certificate. The current owner is a Lamborghini collector, taking the car out for Fuji Speedway track days with his other Diablo and Gallardos. The car was recognised with an award at the Lamborghini Day Concours d’Elegance in Tokyo in 2017.
Maintenance records from 2013 to 2017 are retained with the car. With under 7,000km on the odometer, this is a rare opportunity to own a standout example of Lamborghini’s racing history.
