The late special model “NSX (NA2)” commonly referred to as “02R” or “NSX-R,” was released in May 2002, seven years after the early special model “NSX (NA1)”, or “92R”, finished being produced. Even though the early model was named “Type-R” similar to the Honda Civic and Honda Integra, the late model was simply named “R.”

The “02R” is the only model in its class which generates negative lift. This was made possible by utilizing a carbon bonnet and hood with an air outlet, a finned front undercover at the front, and finally, a diffuser and carbon spoiler in the rear. The aerodynamics of the “02R” have been greatly improved compared to the previous "92R" model. Many racing drivers and motor journalists enthusiastically state that, "it feels like you’re being sucked to the surface of the ground when you’re driving the 02R!"

Equipped with a C32B V6 3.2-litter DOHC VTEC as the early "92R", the engine has no friction and it rotates fast by using high quality parts assembled with the methods of making racing engine. The six-speed manual transmission was successfully made with the low final gear ratio, which enables better acceleration.

Improvement on body rigidity, exclusive settings of suspension, exclusively developed high-grip tiers, forged aluminum wheels, as well as the reduction of its weights (70kg saved from BASE GRADE) are all combined together successfully to offer its drivers a fun, dynamic driving experience.
