1932 MG J2

  • Fully Restored by a Specialized Dutch Workshop
  • Complete Restoration Records
  • Proven Participation in La Festa Mille Miglia

Before the outbreak of the Second World War, from 1932 to 1934, the British marque MG produced a lightweight two-seater roadster known as the J2. Over its three-year production run, only 2,083 units were built. Equipped with an 847cc inline-four OHV engine, the J2 earned a reputation for its lively handling and approachable price, making it a beloved entry point into sports car ownership at the time.

Today, the model is highly regarded among enthusiasts for its classic styling, lightweight body, and compact dimensions, which also make it a popular choice as a vehicle for participation in classic car rallies. Among its various configurations, the early “cycle fender” type, used only in the initial production period, is especially prized.

This particular example is indeed an early model featuring the desirable cycle fender design. The current owner acquired it from a dealer in the Netherlands that specializes exclusively in pre-war vehicles. The car had already undergone a comprehensive restoration by the time of purchase. Numerous photographs documenting the process have been preserved, and a review of these images shows that the restoration was thorough in every respect—from the chassis and bodywork to the smallest individual components—carried out by skilled professionals. All relevant documentation accompanies the vehicle.

The paintwork was also carefully finished using lacquer paint to authentically recreate the car’s original appearance. Such meticulous attention to detail reportedly earned this example an award at a concours d’elegance in its home country.

In 2019, the car competed in La Festa Mille Miglia. In 2021, its engine was overhauled, during which a set of aluminum carburetors was fabricated and installed using contemporary technologies including 3D scanning and 3D printing. As a result, the car achieved stable running performance and enhanced reliability for long-distance driving, successfully completing the 2022 La Festa Mille Miglia as well.

Currently, the car has been maintained regularly by Garage Igarashi, a respected workshop known for handling classic vehicles and trusted by many rally drivers.
For those considering participating in classic car rallies, this example represents an appealing candidate. Yet beyond rallying, its approachable driving character, compact dimensions that defy any apprehension about pre-war cars, and the extensive maintenance it has received make it arguably one of the finest possible choices for anyone seeking an ideal introduction to classic motoring.
