This is a miraculous machine - representing one man’s devotion to preserving for six decades.
In 1964, Honda unveiled the S600, a sports car born from the precision engineering it had honed in motorcycle racing and Formula One. With a DOHC engine redlining from 9,500 rpm, four carburetors, and an equal-length exhaust manifold, its clockwork-like mechanical sophistication astonished the world.
Remarkably, this example remains unrestored, never rebuilt and never renewed.
While many great classics have survived through restoration or replacement parts, this SM600 still carries the very air of the moment it left the production line in 1965. It stands as testament to a single owner who devoted a lifetime to its preservation.
To him, the car was never just transportation. It was family, perhaps something even more.
The story began with a curious twist of fate: intending to order a coupe, he instead took delivery of a Deluxe-spec S600, an SM600, finished in Alpine Blue Metallic. From that day, for 60 years, even once he married and raised a family, his dedication to the vehicle never wavered.
After every drive, the car was meticulously wiped down until not a trace of dust remained. To prevent tire deformation, it was always stored on four jack stands, liberating it from gravity.
An inscription on the steering wheel notes “8,357 km,” recording an odometer replacement, an honest declaration born of respect for machinery. The original tires fitted at delivery were carefully removed and preserved. Spare parts were accumulated for the future. The factory hardtop, used only a handful of times, was stored with equal care. These actions reveal not only affection, but a resolute determination to pass this cultural artifact intact to future generations.
