1998 Mercedes-Benz SL60 AMG
- AMG 6-litre V8
- 1 of 25 “Limited Edition” examples (No. 4/25)
- Fully repainted
- Removable panoramic glass hardtop
The R129 is the 4th generation SL debuting in 1989 with a luxurious interior and sharp body lines penned by Bruno Sacco; it was a sales success in the era of booming economies.
The “SL” acronym stands for “Sport Leicht”, German for “Sport Light” and while the car uses large displacement engines, the car is relatively compact and has good handling making it a pleasant car to drive.
This example is an SL60, one of the most desirable R129s with a 6-litre V8 from AMG. At the time, Mercedes had another variant with a 6-litre engine, a V12 which was very popular despite having similar power and the V8 being lighter. The 6-litre V8 would eventually be removed from the range and was replaced by a 5.5-litre V8.
This car is from the last year of production of the SL60, it’s a “Limited Edition” model as shown by the side sill engraving which denotes this example as no. 4/25. It’s painted in the famous Mercedes colour Brilliant Silver and the interior is finished in black leather with white leather seat inserts. It has a panoramic glass hardtop, an expensive option at the time, and a lift-up roof rack is included allowing one person to install the hardtop without additional assistance.
The car has covered over 200,000 km but has been fully repainted and several parts have been refurbished.
