Along with the VW Bus and Ford Econoline, the Chevrolet Corvair Greenbrier was an iconic vehicle of van life in the 60s. The model is commonly referred to as the Corvair 95, as it had a 95-inch wheelbase.
One of the Corvair's best-known features was its horizontally opposed six-cylinder air-cooled engine mounted in the rear. This was an unusual layout for an American car at the time, however both the Corvair and the VW Bus had rear air-cooled engines. The engine is accessed by opening the hood bolted to the rear luggage space.
According to Mr Ikeda from Orange, the exterior of the car had noticeable wear and tear when he bought it, but after an all-over paint job and sheet metal repairs were carried out, the car has been maintained in good condition.
The body colour chosen is a beige colour with a military feel. The wheels are 14-inch American Racing wheels and the muffler is an external one, giving the car a bold and stylish design.
The exterior is a military inspired beige, with 14 inch American Racing wheel and an external muffler, cutting a bold and stylish image. The similarly rugged interior matches the exterior, with an unlined metal finish. Although this vehicle is not designed for camping, it is equipped with side doors that open outwards and a rear hatch for loading luggage. It is also equipped with a heater and cooler, making it highly practical.
The transmission is a manual floor-mounted three-speed. The Chevrolet engine is easy to find parts for, and with a bit of care and attention, this is a classic van that will last a long time.
