This is the third generation of the Toyota Toyoace, one of the most famous trucks of post-war Japan. This particular model has a double cab to fit 6 people. While the Toyoace is a commercial vehicle, this one has been customised with a militaristic style. This specific Toyoace is Mr Ikeda of Orange’s first customisation concept, so he is deeply attached to it.
The car was originally a commercial vehicle with a white exterior and a logo on the door, but sheet metal repairs and a full paint job were carried out on the car. The exterior is now finished in Offbeat Khaki Metallic, which is the original colour of Daihatsu vehicles. The tyres and wheels are significantly larger than standard.
One of the customisation touches for camping use is the tent on the roof which offers plenty of space when unfolded. It also has an excellent load capacity and can accommodate three adults.
Although this vehicle is very different from the genuine Toyoace, it has not been extensively customised. The vehicle has not been lifted and the exterior has been left as is apart from the paint. The interior is almost entirely original, with a bare metal interior typical of commercial vehicles.
The radio is also fitted with the original equipment of the period and works without any problems. The ample space in the cargo bed allows even large items to be loaded with ease, making it ideal for solo or family camping.
The vehicle was very popular with customers visiting Orange, and was a popular demo vehicle at the shop, and was used at many events and camp setups, giving it an iconic status.
