1969 TOYOPET Corona (RT40)
- ▶Top of the range “1500 Deluxe” model
- ▶Has spent many years in storage, requires full recommissioning before it can be used
In 1964, sales in the US market, which was the key export destination, were sluggish, so Toyota unveiled the 3rd generation Corona in search of performance that can be used overseas.
At the heart of the car was a "2R" engine, which was an improvement over the initial model, boasting high-speed performance and durability. Its high performance is backed by a 100,000 km continuous high-speed driving public test on the Meishin Expressway, and it is said that about 200,000 people rushed to the test drive events held all over the country. After the sale, it set a new domestic registration record for a single model. The volume of exports also increased sharply, and the production scale became the second largest after Volkswagen.
This particular vehicle is a 1969 1500 Deluxe model. Dullness of the plated parts and rust on the lower part of the front bumper can be seen on the exterior, but the other parts are in relatively good condition. The resin cover that protects the interior door panel is torn, but the condition of the main body is good.
A cover is also attached to the seat, and no other major defects are found around the instrument panel. Maintenance is required when starting the engine, but it is exciting to think about the time when this famous car will be revived.
