1973 Jaguar E-Type Series 3 V12 Roadster
- Series 3 model with a silky 5.3ℓ V12 engine
- BorgWarner 3-speed automatic transmission
- Popular roadster model
To fulfill the safety regulation of the US, the engine was replaced by a newly developed single cam V12 engine designed by Walter Hassan and Wally Monday, with a (bore/stroke) 90.0mm×70.0mm and 5,343cc, 9.0 compression ratio and two Zenith-Stromberg 175CDSE carburetor on each bank.
By adopting an aluminum block, compared to a 6 cylinder engine, the weight increase remained a minimum, the maximum speed 227km/h and 0→60mph acceleration recorded a 6.9 sec. Boasting 272hp/5,850rpm and 42.0kgm/3,600rpm, this engine later was installed on the XJ Saloon and the model that succeeded that-the XJ-S. It went through various improvements and was produced for over 20 years.
This example is equipped with a BorgWarner 3-speed automatic transmission that became available as an option from Series 3.
